The skeleton (one row = one post)

Date · Platform · Format · Hook · Body note · CTA goal · Status

If a row has no hook or no single CTA, it is not ready to produce.

Step-by-step

  1. One niche, one primary platform — pick the audience and the surface that can send traffic to your free tool or email. Secondary platforms wait.
  2. Cadence you can keep — write a number (e.g. 5 posts/week). If you missed last week, the number is too high.
  3. Fill 14 date slots — every day gets 0–2 posts max at the start. Empty days are allowed; ghost weeks are not the goal.
  4. Assign formats — mix: short video, thread/carousel, single image, reply/quote. Variety beats 14 identical posts.
  5. Hooks first — one line that earns the next second. Write all 14 hooks before polishing bodies.
  6. One CTA goal per post — follow, click tool, join email, save, or share. Dual CTAs dilute conversion.
  7. Batch produce — film/write in one or two blocks, schedule, then review what earned the CTA — not vanity likes alone.

Worked example (builder / free-tool lane)

Niche: early founders · Primary: X · Cadence: 6/week · CTA spine: free tools → email

Repeat pattern week 2 with new hooks. Do not invent revenue claims in posts.

FAQ

What is a content calendar?

A dated plan of posts: platform, format, hook, and one CTA. It turns publishing into a schedule instead of a mood.

How far ahead should I plan?

Start with 14 days. Enough to batch; short enough to steer from real data.

How often should I post?

Whatever you can keep for four weeks. Consistency beats a heroic week followed by silence.
